Your guide to paying Helpers for one-time tasks

Blog /

Tasks are one-time bookings with same-day payment. You’ll create your Help Request, choose and book a Helper, then pay for that Helper’s time after the task is completed.

How do I pay my Helper for tasks?

You’ll pay for tasks online or on your Herewith mobile app through our simple payment portal. The first time you create a Help Request you’ll set up your payment method and add your choice of credit or debit card. You won’t be charged until care is received.

Going forward, you can easily manage and update your payment preferences at any time by going to Account. Learn more about managing your Stripe account in our FAQ here.

When do I pay my Helper for tasks?

Your task payment will be processed automatically one hour after the task is completed (i.e. one hour after your Helper clocks out). You’ll be notified as soon as the task is done so you have a chance to review and confirm their hours, dispute if needed, or mark them as a no-show if they don’t show up.

Are there any cancellation fees?

If your Help Request has not been booked, you may cancel it at any time.

Canceling Ahead: If you have already confirmed a booking with a Helper, you may cancel at no charge up until 3 hours prior to the scheduled Help Request.

Canceling Last Minute: If you cancel within 3 hours of the booked request, you will be charged a prorated amount equal to one hour.

What if my Helper is late?

If your Helper is running late, we recommend that you message them to ensure that they are on their way. They can clock in late and make up the time, as long as it’s ok with you.

What if my Helper doesn’t show up?

If your Helper doesn’t show up and doesn’t clock in, you don’t have to do anything—you will not be charged for the task.

If your Helper doesn’t show up and does clock in, you can end the task from your Herewith app and mark them as a no-show so that you will not be charged.

What if my Helper forgets to clock in or clock out?

Helpers must clock in to get paid for tasks. If the task is supposed to start and you do not receive the live shift notifications, please reach out to your Helper directly. They may be running late, or they may have forgotten to clock in. If they do not ever clock in but do complete the task, please call Support at 415-506-9776 to address the situation.

If your Helper hasn’t clocked out yet and it’s past the time the task should have ended, we recommend reaching out to them to confirm whether or not they are still working. For example, if they are providing help with errands and are stuck in traffic, they may not be able to clock out yet.

You will get a text SMS reminder if your Helper is still clocked in and exceeds the time set for the task, so that you can message them and check in.

If you confirm they have stopped working but haven’t clocked out, you may clock out on their behalf. To do so:

  1. Tap on the Live Task banner along the top of your screen, either on your computer or mobile app
  2. Tap the End Task button. On the mobile app you’ll slide to the right. On your computer you’ll need to press the button and wait a few seconds

What if the task takes more time than I requested?

We recommend chatting with your Helper before the task begins to let them know your preferences on going over the booked time frame.

Here are a few scenarios with different options:

  • Let your Helper know if you have a strict time limit. For example, perhaps you’d like them to do two hours’ worth of Home Help, but no more.
  • Let your Helper know if finishing the task is more important than clocking out on time. For example, perhaps you need them to finish all the errands, and you know there may be traffic at that time of day so the end time of the task is a little bit flexible.
  • Let your Helper know if they need to stay with the care recipient until someone relieves them. For example, if you’ve booked a Helper to provide respite for yourself or another family member, it may be important for the Helper to remain with your loved one until someone arrives to relieve them.

If your Helper logs more time than they worked, you can request a correction on their timecard at time of payment. Please be aware however, that Herewith takes disputes seriously and investigates all disputes. By law, you must pay for time worked by your Helper.
