Background checks are a normal part of caregiving work, whether you're looking for jobs on a platform like Herewith, a traditional agency, or even searching for your own clients independently.

In this article, we'll go over what that process looks like on the Herewith platform: when your background check will be triggered, how long it takes, and how Herewith protects your privacy.

Are caregiver background checks mandatory for Helpers?

Yes. Herewith requires that all Helpers who join our platform undergo an initial eligibility background check before your first hiring and requires all Helpers to consent to further eligibility background checks thereafter.

These background checks are designed by Herewith to verify whether Helpers meet Herewith’s eligibility standards for participation on its platform.

Herewith currently uses Checkr for such background checks. Herewith does not share the results of its platform eligibility background checks with Care Recipients.

Complete your caregiver background check before getting hired

Your background check will be triggered the first time you receive a job offer from a client. Once your check clears, you can accept senior care jobs on the Herewith platform.

To get started, create your fast, easy Helper profile. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions on your screen or visit our tutorial on creating your Helper profile.

How to start your caregiver background check on Herewith:

  1. Your background check is the last step before you can get hired on the Herewith platform.
  2. Tap Start background check to begin
  3. You will fill out a few quick forms. Check your progress along the top of the page
  4. On the final page, you’ll add your electronic signature (type your name as it appears in your profile) and tap Submit

Your background check will only take a couple of minutes to complete, and usually around 24 hours to clear. Find out how to check on the status of your background check below.

How long does the caregiver background check take?

Typically the caregiver background check takes only a few minutes to complete and around 24 hours to clear. However, they can sometimes take a bit longer due to local processing times in your city, country, or state.

If there’s a delay in the processing, we’ll let you know.

How do I check on the status of my background check?

After you submit your background check, you can log in to your Helper profile or open your mobile app and check the banner at the top of your screen.

Or, go to My Account > My Profile and scroll all the way to the bottom.

After you’ve submitted your background check, the status is: Awaiting results.

If for some reason your background check is taking a bit longer than 24 hours, you’ll receive a Pending Review notification that lets you know we’re checking to see what the delay is.

When your results are in, we’ll notify you via text SMS, push notification, and email.

Once it’s all clear, you’re good to go and you can start accepting bookings senior care jobs and chatting with clients.

What happens if there are issues with my background check?

Usually your background check will take around 24 hours to clear. However, occasionally it can take a little longer, depending on local agencies. In the case that there’s a delay, you’ll be notified immediately (see above).

If an issue comes up with your background check, you’ll be notified by text SMS, push notification, and email, so that you have a chance to find out what’s going on.

Herewith reserves the right to request a new background check on a case by case basis.
